Everton manager David Moyes says he will look to sign a striker in the January transfer window.
Everton are the Premier League's lowest scorers with four goals this season, a figure that has left them in the relegation zone with three wins in 12 games.
"We have the worst scoring record in the Premier League so we know where the problems are," Moyes told the club's annual general meeting on Thursday.
"That's the area I feel we need to strengthen in January if possible."
Moyes added he may look to sign a new goalkeeper as well, as he is losing faith in Nigel Martyn's back-up Richard Wright.
"Richard Wright has played and has not done as well as he should have," Moyes added.
"I may need to look for another goalkeeper before the end of the season."
Moyes admitted he has been shocked by the demise of his team this season. They finished fourth last season but were knocked out of the Champions League in the qualifying stages and failed to make the UEFA Cup group stage.
"I want this club to have a team to be proud off and I can't stand here today and say that we have," he added.
"There is nobody more disappointed or surprised about where we are than me.
"Times are hard at the moment and it doesn't look particularly good, but if you look at the bigger picture I feel we are going in the right direction."
Chairman Bill Kenwright said he was still looking for new investors but the interest from Fortress Sports Fund and their leader Chris Samuelson has now come to an end.
"He had the credentials and the board believed he could come up with a deal that would benefit Everton. He couldn't come up with the goods," Kenwright said.
Everton announced a rise in turnover for the year ending May 31, 2005 of 34 percent from 44.7 million pounds ($77.07 million) to 60 million pounds, a figure that is the best in the club's 127-year history.
Profits before player trading were up to 0.1 million pounds compared with a deficit of 17 million pounds.
Striker Wayne Rooney's sale to Manchester United brought a transfer profit of 23.4 million pounds but the club have since spent 23.6 million pounds on new signings.
